Global Dance Bazaar
Troupe Siddique is the
performing group of the Global Dance Arts Center. It is made
up of students and former students of the Global Dance Arts
Center. Some of those students are now teachers of their own
classes, so their students also join us.
The mission of the Troupe is
related to that of the Center. It is to promote the acceptance
of Middle Eastern Women's dances as ethnic dance art.
As such the group seeks to
present dances as closely representing the culture as
possible, given our American origins. When presenting dances
that represent fusion with dance from other cultures such as
American or Spanish, these origins are clearly presented.
In order to fulfill our
mission, the Group presents Middle Eastern Women's dances in
many venues, including stage shows, theatres, community
events, hospitals, nursing homes and other places where we can
present the dance to people who might not otherwise come into
contact with it.
The Troupe presents women's
dances from Egypt, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Turkey
with occasional guest performers who present Hawaiian,
Polynesian or Spanish dances. Types of dances include "Raks
Sharqi" (belly dance), Khaleegy (Gulf style), and Tunisian
folkloric and Guedra (Moroccan trance dance).
Performing provides an
educational experience, as well as entertainment, for both our
members and our audiences.
